Historic & Tropical Architecture - Restoration, renovation and addition to very old Hawaiian structures. Studied Tropical Architecture at the University of Hawaii during the period when the "Energy House" concept was developed. Tom has a special interest in energy house design.

Thai culture & language - Lived in Thailand for 6 years, worked in architectural and industrial design and construction in Bangkok, and speaks, reads & writes Thai.

Gardening - Organic gardener of locally adapted vegetable and herb varieties and Asian vegetables & herbs.

Native plants - Collects and propagates endemic and indigenous Hawaiian plants of the rain forest.

Surfing - Longboard surfer at Canoe's in the summer & paipo board rider at Makapuu in the winter.

Hiking - Enjoys hiking in the Koolaus, especially trails to the summit.

Model airplane flying - Current President of Paradise Control Line Flyers. Flies control line combat and stunt at Blaisdell Park with travel to the mainland to enter combat contests.

Geomancy - The Chinese art of placement, also known as Feng Shui.
