NEW CUSTOM
HOMES
|
|
Tom has worked
on both top-end and modest new custom homes on both Oahu and
Maui. He works closely with the owners to design according
to their taste, lifestyle and budget. A few examples are
shown below.

pool

Kahala
This charming entry leads to fabulous ocean views from
nearly every room in this luxury home at Black Point. After
years in Bali, this family created a new home in the old
Hawaiian style to be a showplace for their Balinese art
collection. Although the site was a rocky hillside, we were
able to create space for a level backyard and swimming pool
surrounded with lush tropical plantings. To see the backyard
and pool, click on the link below the picture.

Na Pali Haweo
The developer of Na Pali Haweo (above Hawaii Kai) asked me
to do a model house to help get sales going. Though only a 3
bedroom and 1 story, it sold for nearly $1 million and won 2
Parade of Homes awards. Soon after, the owners of the 2 lots
next door said they liked it so well they wanted me to
design their homes.

House of
Light
Featured in Island Home magazine, this "smart" house is
next to, and nearly a copy of, the Parade of Homes winner
shown above, with the addition of an indoor theater room.
The owners were in the lighting business, so they
incorporated the very latest technology in lighting, audio
and security systems.

Hawaii Loa Two tall fluted columns frame the entry of this hillside home. The little pavillion in the front overlooks a pool with a panoramic view of the south shore of Oahu and the Pacific Ocean..

Interior views: Stairs,
Living, Foyer.
|
Black Point
Just inside the Black Point Association gates is a home
with sweeping views of Kahala Beach and Koko Head. A 3-story
circular staircase wraps around a koi pond and links the
entry level, living level, and master suite. For interior
views click on the links below the photo.

Kailua Beach
Kama'aina family's house near the beach. Verandas and
landscaped yards surround the house on all sides.
|
|
Kailua Beach
Oceanfront Kailua beach house for a family of four. Wood
shakes hold up well in oceanfront conditions. One of Tom's
earliest custom home designs.

Some tips to
clients:
When planning your new home or
addition, estimate your costs at the going market rate.
Don't count on "miracle workers."
Add a 10% contingency factor to
your budget to cover the unforseen.
