ALTERATIONS & ADDITIONS

The bulk of Tom's projects have been residential alteration and addition projects. He has literally done hundreds.  A few examples are shown below.

Lanikai
This beautiful beachfront property is the summer retreat for 2 families. Its gracious kama'aina style captures the best of island living.

Waialae Kahala
This addition added a new entry and master bedroom suite with an exercise room. The seamless blending of the new and existing roof lines came out well.

Kailua
A thousand square feet of additions and new roof lines transformed this home on the corner of Malaniu Avenue and Kainui Drive, The new 2nd floor windows provide nice views, ventilation and light for the two story high living room.

Portlock
A "woody goody" addition for an artistic family. We added an upstairs unit that took excellent advantage of the breezes and views.

Windward Side
This kama'aina country home was transformed from a little old house to this comfortable and fun place with decks, upstairs master suite and fabulous views.

Kapiolani Park
This second floor addition and remodel adjoins Kapiolani Park at the end of Kalakaua Avenue.

A few tips on alterations & additions:

  • Be careful not to overbuild for your neighborhood.
  • Multi-generational homes are popular in Hawaii, but they need to be carefully planned to give everyone their indoor and outdoor private spaces as well as common areas.
  • A good addition appears to be a seamless enlargement of the original design.
